I believe Ezio, the new main character, discover's a codex written by Altair, it's most likely that Altair will play a very minor role, maybe in a flash back sequence.

You might get Altair's clothes as an unlockable to wear as Ezio but other then that I doubt that Altair will have any role in Assassin's Creed II.
